Giving Sanctuary to All Animals

Best Friends Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah

On any given day, the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah, is home to hundreds of animals, including dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, horses, pigs and more. The largest no-kill sanctuary in the country, it is a place of refuge for all living creatures – even the mice that invaded its pigeon enclosure.

When Best Friends was looking for rodent control that would not harm the mice (or impact the pigeons), they reached out to see if our fertility-control technology would be the solution.

It also gave us a wonderful way to test our product in an enclosed setting, mimicking in many ways the island locations where we plan to establish a humane alternative to poison.

WISDOM Good Works and Best Friends

We began working with Best Friends in 2022. In just slightly over six months, the mouse population in the enclosure had dropped by 60 percent! It confirmed our belief that the mice would eat the pellets – even in the presence of other food – and that consuming the feed was making the rodents infertile without harming them.

We are looking forward to how fertility-control can help other aspects of this amazing facility, a model of how to address the issue of animal overpopulation and the heart of the no-kill movement in animal welfare.
